Inside, you are able to see what the bees get up to in their colourful hives that are dotted around Hawke's Bay Wine Country. This bright, innovative centre offers a truly inactive, self paced learning experience that children of any age will have delight in.
Smell – the sweet aromas of the honey / beeswax / propolis
Feel – the heat generated by the honey bees themselves
See – the worker bees up close in the giant hive threate
Discover – the honey bees world under microscopes
Taste – the range of nine different native & pastoral honeys
There is also a section with puzzles, story books and dress ups.
The live bee wall gives children the chance to watch the worker bees up close doing the waggle dance, after returning from their ventures into the wild, foraging for pollen & nectar. Watch them doing the house cleaning or feeding the young. Be facinated as you watch bees hatching or the Queen laying.
The bees are busy all year round, so there is always action in the hives. The team at the centre is always on hand to help out with spotting the Queen or to answer any questions that you have about honey or the honey bee! The centre is open 7 days a week from 9.00am - 5.00pm.
